Virgin Island Billfish Tournaments

2021 Virgin Island Billfish Tournament for Haiti

The  2021 Virgin Island Billfish  Tournament for Haiti was held on Friday, September 10, 2021. Although  due to Covid, we could not celebrate our anglers and donors with dinner,  drinks, and music, 2 boats, the Marlin Prince Marlin And Gulf Rascal  joined in to benefit Pere Basile Moreau in Port au Prince Haiti, and the  duel language program at BCB here in St Thomas.

Haiti has  suffered a year of devastating earthquakes and political turmoil. Basile  Moreau remains a safe and calm place of hope for the future.

Caribbean  Rose and all the sponsors of the 2021 Virgin Island Billfish Tournament  for Haiti will like to thank all participants.  The day started  beautifully with calm seas and good weather but the fish did not  cooperate. Fred Kopko on the Marlin Prince almost saved the day with a  nice Blue Marlin midday but the fish's luck was better !! There's always  next year.

10th Annual Virgin Island Billfish Tournament for Haiti

Caribbean  Rose in conjunction with NBE has made the difficult decision to cancel  the 10th Annual Virgin Island Billfish Tournament for Haiti, scheduled  to take place on August 1 - 2, 2020. On March 11, 2020, the World Health  Organization (WHO) officially classified COVID-19 as a global pandemic.  Countries around the world took drastic measures to slow the spread of  the virus. Including shelter-in-place programs, work-from-home  initiatives, social distancing, wearing protective masks, etc.

NBE  would like to thank everyone that has supported us in the past.  Including students and staff at the Ensemble Scolaire Pere Basile Moreau  School in Port au Prince Haiti and the Bertha C. Boschulte Middle  School on the island St. Thomas, United States Virgin Islands. We hope  to have your continued support in 2021 and beyond. Thanks to your  donations, the Pere Basile Moreau Middle School was rebuilt after the  devastating 2010 earthquake hit the region. We also work to improve and  expand literacy programs and construct new learning environments for  faculty and staff. With the new and repaired facilities, and enhanced  academic resources through investments in technology, health services,  and other areas, there continues to be a great demand for admission.   The leadership hopes to meet that demand and grow enrollment to further  serve the local needy communities, where education is a beacon for a  better future for the children and all of Haiti.

Locally  the Haiti Tournament also contributes funding to ensure that programs  such as the Remedial Reading Program with a reading component for  English as a Second Language are available to our Virgin Island students  through Bertha C. Boschulte Middle School. Many students using this  program had struggled in previous years, but after working with the  program became some of the top students in promotional exercises.

We  look forward to your continued support. The tournament may have been  canceled for this year, but we are still accepting donations.  Any  donations no matter how large or small will be greatly appreciated.  Donations this year will be especially appreciated in light of the  COVID-19 pandemic.

1st Annual Virgin Islands Billfish Tournament for Haiti

The 1st Annual Virgin Island Billfish  Tournament for Haiti was held on September 13, 2011, to benefit the rebuilding of the Ensemble Scolaire Pere Basile Moreau Secondary School in Haiti. Before the tragic earthquake, it was the best and largest secondary school in Haiti, educating over 1200 students. The school has been operating in tents, awaiting construction. Plans are being made in coordination with the University of Notre Dame Architecture Department to ensure quality design. The new buildings will be built to withstand natural disasters. The project is being overseen on-site by a Notre Dame alumnus from Haiti with construction/engineering experience. The new secondary school, with your help, will be able to safely and effectively educate even more students. First place went to Marlin Prince. Second place went to Therapy. Third place went to Gulf Rascal.
